A trip to the summit.

Hi wordpress! Hi world and cyber space.

I’ve been inactive lately in my blog space because of problems with my wordpress oops! I forgot my password and I’ve been busy lately with some office works and hospital stuffs you know. Anyways I’m back and here I am to revive my long been deserted blog space but I do really miss you guys. I miss telling you what I’ve been through and I miss hearing stories from you.

Lately I have been to a really terrible yet challenging and fulfilling journey yet so far. This is the most insane thing I have ever done in my entire life, but see, like you guys I also have a set of bucket list. And because of this bucket list- I was able to literally go out-AS IN GO OUT of my comfort zone. I never knew that I have this really wild side and strong side of me until I decided to take a big leap forward. It just takes a decision and action to do great things.

I literally grew up with this wonderful site in front of our house. We call this the Musuan peak- known geologically as the Mount Calayo- from the cebuano language that literally means “mountain of fire”. So I grew up feeling closely connected to nature and a love  and fascination to a mountain.

Just last year on my birthdays month I have decided to climb the highest mountains of the Philippines. On my bucketlist are the mountains Mt. Kitanglad and next would be Mt. Apo. Together with my high school friend we ended up climbing Mt. Apo- the highest mountain in the Philippines.

We formed a group and decided to climb this month of April where the summers weather favor good clearing at the summit.

Here are the things I have learned in my assault on this mountain.

1. Know you battle. Know your mountain.

This is the most critical and important of all. It all applies in all walks of life. You’ve got to know your mountain. You’ve got to do research on its geography or its physical characteristics- its elevation and prominence among other features, its climate, flora and fauna. You read blogs and stories about that mountain.

This also applies to all walks of life. For me one of the best way to know about your mountain climbing is to ask those people who have been there before. You can talk to your guide what to expect and what to prepare beforehand.

In realities’ sense like for example in the field of business you have to ask the help of mentors- those who have been there for a long time. That’s the best way to learn without having too much failure because you are already guided. Learn from the experts as they say and you cant go wrong. Always ask help when you need it and and when you have too. That’s the shortest way to success. Got it?!

2. Know yourself.

In all things, you’ve got to know what are your strengths, what are your weaknesses. What are your fears and as much as you could, learn to overcome them. I know for a fact that I have fear of heights. But I was shocked that I was able to conquer it and I learned how to overcome it. I learned to not look down and not to focus on the height of my climb but to shift my focus on my current footstep and my next footsteps. I know that my weakness is food so I never ran out of food to bring for my trails. I got chocolates or trail mixes with me hehehe. I also see to it that i have sufficient water for the climb.

I have fears but I have conquered them one by one. I have fear in the dark also. There were times when we trudged the forest trail as early as 4am. Even when I had my head lamp on. I still have fears on the things I cannot see. I might get stumbled on an unknown rock or a giant snake or what. I don’t know, sometimes I get paranoid. This leads me to my next realization..

3. Some of our fears are only imagined.

Prior to this climb I have already imagined many terrible things. But be careful of your fears because once you get a clear picture of your fears, they will enter your subconscious mind and you  how powerful our subconscious mind could be. Pictures are powerful because they could enter into our psyche if we let them too. That is why we have to think positively. As I climb this mountain I got lots of fears bugging my mind like ‘what if I might fall’ or what if I may stumbled upon a rock or upon a giant root’ things like that. But my prayers and the images in my head like the image when I get to the summit or be united with my ‘katkat squad’- I HAD A PICTURE OF ME and my squad beforehand. I picture us at the summit of that mountain in three days time- enjoying the scenic views and gasping our breaths out in awe. That’s what I had in my mind. And every time fear strikes in me in my assaults especially in the boulders face and especially at the point where I have to overcome the 87 degree tilt of the mountain. I had to create in me a strong picture of victory. That’s what I had in mind. AND TRUE ENOUGH, not long enough that my strength finally regained I was able to regain my composure. . I had to trust my guide and trust myself and so I switched my weight on the left foot  and reach for the hand of our guide from the top portion of the

4. If you want to go fast, walk alone but if you want to go farthest, walk together.

5. The universe will provide.

6. Travel light.

7. Trust yourself to the 99999999th power up to the positive infinity.

8. It is a journey. Not a race.

9. Respect nature. Respect your mountain.

10. If ever you get tired have a rest but don’t you quit.

11. If you know the WHY you will know the HOWS.
